Tips & shortcuts
The controls and features that aren't obvious at first. On a Mac, ⌘ works wherever Ctrl is shown.
Keyboard
- /
- Search for a place or airport.
- ← →
- Step the forecast an hour back or on (with only the live radar or satellite showing, their frames).
- On the timeline: ← →
- Step 15 minutes; with Shift, an hour. Click the timeline first.
- Ctrl + Z
- Undo: the last change to your XC task or flight route, or the layer you switched to.
- Esc
- Close whatever is open (a menu, a popup, measuring, a final glide); in 3D, then back to the 2D map.
3D map
- Shift + ← →
- Turn the view.
- Shift + ↑ ↓
- Tilt the view: up looks more straight down.
- ⌘ / Ctrl + ↑ ↓
- Raise or lower the view in altitude, 1,000 ft a press. Leaving 3D and coming back starts from the usual view on the ground.
- ⌘ / Ctrl + ← →
- Slide the view sideways.
- Right-drag
- Turn and tilt with the mouse (or hold Ctrl and drag). On touch: two fingers dragged up or down tilt, twisted turn.
- Side view
- Cuts the air open in front of you, like a cross-section; Cut at brings the cut (and the altitude pole) nearer or farther. Cut thermals cuts them open too.
- Cycles
- Thermals and cumulus live through the hour: columns rise, break off and drift, clouds form and decay. ▶ plays the day; the slider sets the minutes.
- Lift over, Show up to
- Hide the weaker lift, or everything above a height, to see what you'd actually use.
- Terrain ×1, ×1.5, ×2
- Exaggerate the terrain's height (and the air's with it).
- Time tags on a route
- Tap one to move the timeline to the time you'd be there.
- Pull down for notes
- The 3D panel's handle opens notes on what each shape and color means.
On the map
- Right-click or long-press
- A spot's menu: glide lines from it, a final glide to it, start or add to an XC task (or a flight route), suggested tasks from it, measure from it. Its coordinates are at the top, ready to copy.
- Right-click a turnpoint
- Delete it (undoable).
- Glide Range layer
- Right-click or hold anywhere for that spot's glide lines; again on the same spot to clear them.
- Glide to Airport layer
- The way to the airport is drawn from the crosshair as you pan; tap the map to lock it from that spot in the bottom bar, tap again to free it. On a computer, hover for any point.
- Tap the start
- While planning an XC task, closes it back to the start (out-and-return, triangle).
Menu, legend and layout
- Right-click or long-press a layer
- Pin it to the top bar (or use its pin icon); right-click a pinned one to unpin it.
- Tap the legend's unit
- Change that layer's units (kt, m/s, ft, m …) without going to Setup.
- Swipe the legend right
- Hide it; its tab brings it back.
- Drag the edges
- The menu's edge, the side panel's and the timeline's grip resize them; double-click a grip to reset it.
- Scroll wheel
- Over the days scrolls them; over the radar row, steps the radar frames; over the point forecast, scrolls its hours.
- + Save view
- Saves the place, zoom, layer and 3D view; Edit stars the one to open by default.
- Model pins
- Open the model details (the arrow beside the model switch) and unpin the models you don't use.
- Save for offline
- In the XC planner, keeps the day's forecast over your task's area on the device, for flying with no signal.
- Release number
- In Setup, opens what's new in this release.
- Take the tour
- In Setup → About, walks through the main controls again.
